That Dave DeVries Painting

This is Dave DeVries original painting of Xena and Callisto which was published in Topps' Official X:WP Magazine (sorry for the glare off the glass).

Here is the print made and sold by Dynamic Forces. They've flipped the image 180 degrees horizontally and zoomed in the images quite a bit. The colors are almost true, but a still a little lighter than in the original. Notice, too, that Dave DeVries' signature was removed in the print, as it would have read backwards (can't have that!).

An artist friend of mine hypothesized that the image had been flipped because the hero figure should be on the right. In fact, Xena looks a little larger than Callisto in the flipped image, putting Xena in the foreground. But as Jeanette Atwood, the Battle On! cartoonist asked me when she saw the painting at my house a few years ago, "where's Callisto's other arm?"
