2008 Burbank Xena Con Props/Costume Presentation -- brief overview with photos!

[Kevin Smith's Ares costume is on ebay now! Auction ends Feb 4th, 2008).

I'm just throwing up a few photos and comments from this weekend's presentation at the Xena Convention. I'll come back and post with more detail later. Overall, we were really happy with the presentation. Barbie and I were pretty comfortable talking about collecting and items together, set-up and break-down went very smoothly and we kept to the schedule. My friend Twin Carol had my camera and took all of these photos from the front row. We also got permission from Creation to video-record the talk and Barbie's husband did just that.

The one thing that happened that took me completely by surprise was at the end of the talk when the stage was completely mobbed by people taking photos. And I mean mobbed: several people deep all around the stage.

Only I am geeky enough to bring a PowerPoint presentation to a Xena Convention, and early on a Saturday, too: we were first up on stage. Marilyn Cristiano, Barbie Arms, and myself are on stage flanked by three original costumes from my collection, from left to right: Evil Xena from the H:TLJ trilogy, Classic Xena Leathers and Armor, and Gab's BGSB costume (version with shoulders) is off to the right of the Xena Leathers.

The Gab Staff and Xena Sword in Scabbard are also original. The sword in this scabbard is a metal retractable Xena Swords. Being sandwiched between two costumed mannequins isn't so terrible......

Highlighting the Evil Xena costume (on the left). I had three images from early PR materials showing this costume as well as screen grabs from Warrior Princess. On the far left near the costume, you can see my friend Rob guarding access to the stage on that end. His lovely wife Liz was on the other flank.
One of our slides of Najara's costume, a particular collecting focus for Barbie. She hasn't completed the costume yet, but is searching diligently for the rest of it.

Is it real or is it Memorex? Barbie is holding a fake/forged resin chakram from her collection next to an authentic resin chakram from mine. We talked about the problem of determining authenticity of props and she related the story of a particular forger selling chakrams on ebay.

More later!
